Back in November 2016, I met Kate and Mike in downtown D.C. at sunrise. I remember that I couldn't believe how easy and pleasant it was to drive in and find free parking on a Saturday morning at 7am. I left my puffy coat in the car in exchange for being able to actually move, and I was worried I would freeze. I don't remember being cold at all--I was so happy and having so much fun that not much else mattered. This was one of my first engagement sessions ever, and I had rented the Canon 5d Mark iii from Lumoid, and it was the best decision! (Ps--if you ever want to rent gear from Lumoid, let me know and I can send a coupon code your way. I get some credit towards my next rental so we both win!)
Last weekend, Kate and Mike celebrated their wedding in Harrisonburg, VA. I'm looking forward to seeing more photos as they are posted!
Taking their engagement photos was the first time that I really met and talked to Kate and Mike (although Kate went to PVI and our paths have crossed before), and it was so natural and relaxed. The first half of their photo session was more informal, and we wandered around finding pretty trees and pretty light. They then changed into formal clothes and we went into the Library of Congress, and they looked like they could've been a couple eloping right then and there. Their outfits, their easy cuddles and laughs as they indulged the random shots I wanted to try, and general happiness all left me on cloud nine.
Here's a series of their images from that morning. Some of these are still among my favorites ever, and it's crazy to me that this was just one year ago and my style has changed so much since then!
Cheers to Kate and Mike on this official start to their lives together!
